Originally established in 1980, we provide palliative care advice and clinical support for people with terminal illness, their families and carers. Our Hospice is based in Pembury and comprises a 15 bed In-Patient Unit and a Hospice Day Service offering a range of treatments, complementary therapies and clinics. Our Hospice in the Home service provides 24 hour advice and support to the local community and all nursing and medical services are offered alongside family support, bereavement counselling and spiritual care. All our services and activities are supported by a skilled and dedicated team of volunteers. No charge is made for these services which are provided on the basis of need rather than ability to pay.
We are very proud of the fact that we are a teaching Hospice and our Training Centre provides many courses and training sessions for health and social care professions and others. These include rotational placements in specialist palliative care approved by the London & KSS Deanery for the postgraduate training of doctors. Our State of the art training facilities with on-site parking and catering are available for hire - they are particularly suitable for corporate seminars, conferences and training courses.
Hospice in the Weald is not about a building or single service, it is about a multifaceted organisation which for us is to do with an overall philosophy of care. We believe that Palliative Care affirms life, and regard dying as a normal process. We neither hasten nor postpone death and will continue to play our part in making sure people from our community do not die in a place they have not chosen, cut off from carers, family and friends and dependent on systems and procedures that are impersonal, and over which they have little or no control.
This blog is a chance for us to share with you the amazing work our staff and volunteers do here at the Hospice, but also as a platform for patients to share their experiences of our Hospice services.
